5 Great Benefits of Combing Your Beard

Are you wanting to find out what the benefits of combing a beard are?

Like you have heard from us many times before.

Looking after your beard takes real work.

Although growing a beard is literally as simple as putting down the razor. When it comes to an actually ‘good’ looking beard - there’s a whole lot more to it - as you probably already well know, we’ve come up with a little beard formula.

Beard Grooming + Beard Maintenance = One Mighty Fine Beard.

And a lot of you are thankfully getting the first part right, regularly using darn quality beard oils (such as the ones we keep here) and beard balms (at least judging by the emails we are getting from you guys! And please keep them coming our way with any issues that you are having).

What we do tend to find though it’s the second part of that equation that guys don’t seem to be following up.

That’s why today we want to advocate the benefits of quality beard maintenance - and there’s no better way to do that - than regular combing out your beard.

But before we dive straight in.

We want to first stress the importance of actually investing in a quality beard comb that will actually help your beard rather than the cheap plastic ones that probably end up doing more damage in the both short and long run.

  1. Neatens Up the Look of Your Beard

The most obvious factor when combing your beard is the ‘before’ and ‘after’ look.

It oftens go from messy and out of place to something that is more presentable and orderly to give the look of a beard that is fit for purpose.

You will be bringing in the natural ‘tameable’ flyaway hairs in to the body of your beard to give a thicker and fuller look too. And generally, a combed beard looks a whole lot better than one that has beard hairs sticking out in every other direction but the way you want it to.

  1. Detangles Raises Flat Hairs, Knots & Clumps (Making for the Appearance of a Thicker Beard)

On a similar theme.

You are going to be facing less beard hair knots as well as general clumps that can give the look of a patchier type beard than it actually ought to.

Regularly combing out the bead will help to give the look of an even, uniform type beard and one that is less lopsided and comes out in bulges. Plus, the hairs that are lying flat.

  1. Distributes the Natural Oils that Reside on Your Face

Of course after you have just applied some beard oil or some beard balm on, it’s always a good idea to follow this up with a beard comb to help distribute the oils properly throughout the beard.

However.

You can use your beard comb to actually help distribute the natural oils that reside on your beard (namely sebum etc.) to help keep it well hydrated and moisturised - ensuring proper coverage. Plus, regular combing (max once or twice daily) can help to stimulate beard growth further by increasing the rush of blood to the surface of your beard (i.e your face).

  1. Helps to Pre and Post Style Up Your Beard

The main benefit that can be derived from regular combing can be put down to simply improving the style of your beard - although this probably occurs in more ways than you think.

First off, you get the aspect of it actually being shaped into a style that you want.

Second, you get the appearance of a bulkier and fuller looking beard.

However, you are also essentially training your beard to grow in the direction that you want it to. So you can do this to help your mustache stay away from your top lip. Whether you are developing a beard curl that needs straightening out.

Of course, you are still going to get the odd pesky flyaways but the majority of your beard should start to go the way you want it.

  1. Keep Your Beard in Good Condition

As we’ve already mentioned it will help to keep your beard in a healthier state.

Which in turn, prevents you from facing a bunch of other more serious beard related issue such as ingrown hairs as well as being riddled with a potentially fuzzy beard (due to an onslaught of beard split ends) - or even worse still -  an issue beard dandruff (unfortunately yes, that is a real thing).

Plus, the actual aesthetic of the beard is given a naturally healthy sheen due to it being well hydrated.

Word of Warning:

Now all this might sound good.

And it is to be fair.

But what we have found is that guys tend to go a little overboard with the beard combing - which consequently ends up having a negative impact on your beard. Weakening up the hairs, making them more prone to actually falling out.

So once, max twice a day (unless it genuinely just ends up getting messy somehow) is what we would recommend for combing and brushing your beard.
