For a man, the use of straighteners has become quite a common thing for hair. Guys who have naturally curly, thick, or otherwise wild hair might need some help giving their hair a bit of definition. If you want to do that, then you use hair straighteners. However, have you ever heard of the concept of using beard straighteners?
While that might seem like a fire hazard waiting to happen, it’s really nothing of the sort. You just need to be able to understand what kind of straighteners to use. We would recommend avoiding using your normal hair straighteners; they are often a bit too rough and ready, and also quite painful to use on a beard. So, what do we recommend?
Do you need a set of straighteners?
For anyone with a beard less than an inch, you can probably get by with some combing, some balms, and some oils. This should be more than enough to keep your beard feeling good, and it should also avoid the need for straighteners. When under an inch, you would be surprised to see your hair going too curly anyway!
Buy for your length
One thing to do is before you buy a single beard straightener set is look at their recommended length. Some beard straighteners will go a long way to making it easy for you to understand – others less so. All beard straighteners, though, are made for a certain length. From knee-length beards to beards barely beyond the chin, you will be able to find a straightener set with the power that you were looking for.
Anything over an inch can generally be straightened, but you should absolutely look to use a good quality set of beard straighteners set for your own length. It’s the first thing that we would recommend that you try and learn.
Smart or simple?
Another choice to think about is if you want strenuous, time consuming straighteners or if you want something a bit more easy-going. With some straighteners, they’ll be a supplement for things like beard combs and beard oils. Some other straighteners will need you to put in more work to get the finish that you want but will be able to straighten your beard more or less alone.
Make sure that you choose a pair of beard straighteners that you have time to use. Do you have time for an extensive grooming session?
How much should you pay?
This is a question of taste as much as anything, but we recommend that you set a fair budget for what you can afford. Don’t go too cheap as most of the dirt cheap ones are a bit of a risk to your beloved beard. However, after the mid-range straighteners, you often find that the cost/quality axis begins to become closer and closer. It’s not a case of the more you pay, the better they are; most mid-range options are going to be more than suitable for all but the most particular of beards.
