How to Make a Beard Soft

How to Make a Beard Soft (5 Step Guide)

Do you want to know how to make a beard soft?

There’s nothing worse than spending months upon months.

Growing a decent beard to it only become a freaking nightmare to live with day in day out.

It’s itchy. It’s scraggly - and dare I say it you might be even contemplating shaving it all off? (I weeped a little writing that last sentence, too many beards have been lost unnecessarily).

First off, don’t - or at the least give the following 5 easy to implement techniques a try (preferably all at once) - we prefer a holistic approach when it comes to try and solving issues with beards.

See, we talk to a bunch of prospective beard guys (pretty much daily) and the best method we’ve found is just to take up an entire beard grooming routine that basically revolves making sure your beard is getting enough hydration and secondly it gets the proper maintenance.

That’s exactly what we are going to run with in the five beard softening commandments below

  1. I shall apply beard Oil daily (perhaps even twice a day)

If there are any rules that you should be abiding by.

This is definitely 100% the one.

See a beard oil will help you and your beard out in numerous ways to help soften it, but what it will mainly do is help to hydrate your beard. Turn it from being rough and dry to being soft and supple through the use of moisture.

Make sure you invest in a quality beard oil that will work alongside the natural oils that reside on your face (namely sebum) to help create not only your beard hairs but also the very foundation of your beard too. Your skin.

  1. I shall not neglect my beard and regularly comb and brush it

In reality, you only really need to opt for one or the other.

We’ve made a guide here on choosing between a comb and brush (and ultimately, you’ll probably want both).

But for now, we’d go for the brush - by brushing your beard on a daily basis (not too much though to weaken the hairs) you will help to distribute the oils around your beard as well as help to shape up the overall beard too into a better looking state.

  1. I shall not subject my beard to too much heat

This is one that caught us out for a while.

Guys were doing all of the above and more.

They were going out of their way sticking to a regular beard routine. Wasing their beard and so on. It was only till we thought to ask, how they were drying their beard, what temperature are you washing your beard at and when it comes to styling (praying that they didn’t use a hair straightener).

Ultimately, it is about making sure you don’t subject it to too much heat, as it can turn the hair dry and brittle - literally rubbing you up the wrong way.

  1. I shall opt for the use of beard moisturiser

We recommend you take a look at getting yourself a tin of this too.

A sophisticated beard moisturiser:

In many ways, it is just the solid version of the beard oil.

With two slight differences;

i) it will help to slowly release the moisture throughout the day (hence why we advoce for using it in the morning  - plus it offers some hold to style your beard).

ii) it will help to lock in the moisture (so apply a couple of drops of beard oil first, then work on applying the moisturiser).

We recommend using the oil at night (for the deep moisturising penetration) then the balm in the morning.

  1. I shall wash my beard the right way (and avoid generic head hair products)

We went into detail on how to wash your beard the correct way just a week ago. If you want to get more in-depth.

However, it is breaks down to the following concepts:

Make sure that you are washing your beard with natural shampoos (you definitely should not be using the stuff your better half is using) as they are kinder to your beard.

You want to be restricting it to about once or max twice a week. The only real exception is if you’ve got a grubby job and your beard is just going to get dirty and needs a wash.

If this is the case? You definitely need to invest in a quality beard friendly shampoo and need to up the dose on the conditioning aspect.

For those who don’t? But feel like they need to wash their beards with something (I get that), we recommend co-washing. Basically, get yourself a proper beard conditioner for use in the shower and only wash your beard with that (and not the shampoo).
