How to Pull Off a Fake Beard

How to Pull Off a Fake Beard

When you hear of someone wearing a fake bard, we often think of some pantomime-style beard. You know, like a Captain Hook style beard – something that is obviously made of wool and stands out for all the wrong reasons. If you are looking to try and find a better way to get a beard that is going to be something you can feel proud of, though, you could be waiting a little while. Do you struggle to grow a beard, but want to have one? Then you should probably start looking at how to pull off a fake beard. And no, we don’t mean some weird pantomime one as we said!

We mean something that is a bit more respectable and a touch more beard-like. Fake beards that you could wear to convince people it’s real are often going to look far more hair-like, and some of them will genuinely be up there with the best real beards that you can see. The only challenge that you have is making sure it retains believability. How, though, can you keep that fake beard looking good? How can you avoid anyone finding out it’s a fake?

Use plenty of sticking solution

Most of the fake beards that you buy will come with a sticking solution to help keep it naturally in place. Ones in theatre are often kept on with a bit of strong – but we’d suggest people might notice that if you are out and about in public.

So, instead, make sure that you use as much of the sticking solution as you can. This should help to keep the beard in place, and it should always stay where it is. The last thing you need is some beard falling off because you got too warm!

Make sure you can wear it

Most fake beards are going to be made from form of wool-like surface. This is going to be itchy on the skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. Try and find some form of relief for your skin with creams and powders. This should help to areas where the beard touches to feel less alien, and it should also avoid you scratching at it all day.

A good real beard should not be too irritating to you, so if people see you tugging at it all the time it might raise some suspicion.

Ensure it fits your face

The biggest mistake that a lot of people make though is not trimming the beard to a suitable length. Instead, they leave it looking as it did when they bought it. Most of the time, though, a fake beard kit is not going to be perfectly fitted to your face – it often needs a bit of TLC to get it looking natural. Take the time to balance it out, and you should be left with a beard that looks much more like your own.

Obviously, you want to ensure that it looks a natural blend for your own hair colour. Don’t go for a black beard when you have grey hair – it might be a bit of a giveaway!

Overall, wearing a fake beard can be tough. A bit of preparation for your skin and the beard itself, though, should help you to pull it off.
