How to Soften Beard Stubble

How to Soften Beard Stubble (The Easy Way)

Here's how to soften beard stubble.

You’re at that awkward in-between stage.

That stage, pretty much between full on beard and just starting out (bald-faced).

This my prospective beardy fellow is what is known as the itchy beard stubble beard phase, and no doubt your better half has let you know about it how it irritates their face too.

I’ve been threatened with no more - a’hem *kisses* a’hem - unless the facial scruff gets shaved off. Luckily for me, I came across a very suitable solution:

Oil for beards.

(Which we then went on to develop and you can now see the range that we have here).

So why does beard oil help with soften your beardy stubble?

It’s basically a little concoction of different carrier oils and essential oils.

For demonstration purposes (and because our version is premium quality), let’s breakdown the ingredients of our beard oil.

Here we have The Outlaw:- a bay rum scented and infused beard oil (and by far our best selling beard product).

  • Organic Safflower Oil - Being rich in oleic acid which is capable of safeguarding both your chin and hair, improving the circulation around the chin, stimulating hair growth and strengthening beard hair follicles making it softer.
  • Coconut Oil -  Being rich in fatty acids that work with the natural proteins found in your hair, protecting it from breaking, as well as acting as a moisturising agent that even protects hair follicles from heat and environmental damage. Coconut oil is loaded with natural antioxidants and nutrients, these play a key role in keeping your beard hair soft and supple, even working to counteract dandruff. We actually go on to discuss in more detail the benefits coconut oil has for beards here.
  • Natural Vitamin E Oil - Being an antioxidant that helps repair and build tissue, applying Vitamin E to your skin and hair helps reduce inflammation and repair damage to the follicles, and healthy follicles encourage hair growth and keep it soft.
  • Patchouli Essential Oil - Being a well know essential oil Patchouli has some very good benefits such as helping to speed up the healing process and stimulating blood circulation, therefore providing a new layer of softer facial hair to grow.
  • Pure Cedarwood Himalayan Essential Oil - Being an all round essential oil Cedarwood has been known to counteract hair loss by stimulating hair follicles and also helping to purify the body of toxins providing help to produce good quality in hair.
  • Black Pepper Essential Oil - Being a very unique essential oil Black Pepper has been proven to help the way the body works on a number of things, such as encouraging circulation to provide healthier muscles and hair, as well as assisting in detoxifying the body.

So as you can see there are multiple oils getting to work here to work with the natural oils that reside on your face (sebum) to ensure that your stubble feels softer.

Of course, it’s not only helping your stubble hair but your skin as well.

See, if your skin becomes drier (which naturally occurs when growing out a beard due to the sebum being soaked in as the hair follicles grow out), the rigid stubble becomes more irritable. That’s why using a beard oil will help to reinject some added moisture to your skin as well as making the hairs more manageable as well as feeling softer.

The result?

You’ve got a healthier stubble, moisturised skin and overall it will feel softer and just more comfortable. Not to mention, since the oils contain essentials oil - you will smell freaking great.

Which certainly went down well with my better half after I regularly started applying it.

(Especially The Outlaw, which I now keep back for the special occasions - whereas The Old Smoke is my go to, pretty much day in day out).

How to Apply Beard Oil to Stubble

Now obviously since you don’t have a fully fledged beard, you don’t have to apply as much beard oil to your stubble.

Literally, a couple or a few drops is absolutely fine.

Make sure you spread the oil right throughout your hands and then performing a massaging motion to your face and beard (this helps to stimulate blood flow and in turn helps with growing the beard) plus it feels great.

Ensure your skin is getting well hydrated too, it’s not just about the hairs.

The best time to do this is right after you’ve stepped out of a warm shower, as this is when your skin pores are most exposed and the oil is most susceptible to being absorbed straight into the skin.

Steve does a great demonstration of how to apply beard oil, just don’t use as much and of course imagine he has a lot less beard.

Going to be growing your stubble out to a full flourishing beard?

At this stage, if you are wanting to keep your beard around the five o clock shadow area (around 5mm) then to help keep it soft, we just recommend carrying on like above and using a bit of beard oil every day to help soften it.

However, if you do plan on growing it out further.

Then we definitely recommend that you take a look at our beard kits.

We’ve put these together carefully to ensure that your beard even as it grows out long is fully taken care for with the inclusion of a beard oil (as we have been discussing), a beard moisturiser balm that will to keep your beard conditioned throughout the day (as well as offering a bit of hold) and then finally a moustache wax to keep the whiskers at bay.

Time for Q & A.

Like we always encourage here at Robin Hood Beard Co. if you have any questions on bearding, struggling to tell the difference between beard balm and oil, are your beard hairs getting out of hand - just shoot us across a message and we’ll get back to you in no time.

In the meantime, keep on bearding.
