Moustache, Sideburns Won’t Connect to Your Beard?

Moustache, Sideburns Won’t Connect to Your Beard?

Do you want to know why moustache doesn't connect to your beard?

This is a question that keeps cropping up:

“How do I get my [insert facial hair part here] to connect with the rest of my beard?”

The honest answer though really.

And you know you’re not going to like it.

You probably just can’t (unless you just haven’t given it the chance to, in which case you need to be looking at least 3 months down the line and you should start to see little hairs come on through).

Your beardy genetics just aren’t set up that way. You can get to see a pretty good foundation of your beard from the off (around a month in) and if the hairs aren’t present in between your sideburn and your beard and/or moustache.

They probably just aren’t going to come through (at least yet, if you are quite young - your beardy potential does increase as you get older - so you might have more luck then if you are around your 20s, later than that and you’re probably pushing it).

That, however, is not a bad thing at all.

It’s about owning your facial hair, being confident in who you are - and just making it look your best.

That said, you should still be working going on both your inner beard game (making sure that you are boosting your testosterone levels naturally by getting enough sleep, reducing stress, working out as well as eating right to supply your body with the natural nutrients it is craving to not just survive but to thrive ) as well as your outer beard game (the use of beard balm, beard oil and making sure that you are massaging your beard as well as providing a good overall skin care routine for it too) i.e natural beard care.

And that’s what we should be discussing.

However, there are alternative options to help reduce the look of patchiness.

You can consider even beard cosmetics, where the beard doesn’t quite attach, you can look into beard pencils and beard filler for where you don’t feel there is enough substance there. You can potentially look into even more serious options from Rogaine (which we one hundred percent suggest you fully do your research onto) to even a potential beard hair transplant to make the connection.

I guess it ultimately depends on ‘how much’ you really want it and for what price? Ultimately, though it’s just not that big of a deal. Your beard can still look cool whether it makes the connection from your beard to your moustache or from your beard to your sideburns.

You will be surprised at little it ‘does’ make the beard.

And in actual fact, you might surprise yourself and actually start to think it is a defining aspect of the beard - maybe the little break in your beard stands it out from the rest and benefits the rest of your facial structure. Adding rigidness to a round face or extenuating a short face.

For more aspects on making the most out of your beard, you need to get yourself to a trusted beard barber. Someone who has seen pretty much every type of beard and ask them ‘what would they do’? And they will take it all into account and see what they have to say. They may recommend a shorter and more custom style - but ultimately it’s what you want, what will make you happy.

Do you want to grow the rest of it out and stuff the breaks in connection? Yes? Then awesome!

Do you want the barber to give it a go and make the best of your facial structure and the amount of beard that you have to play with (to make you ultimately look your best)? Yes? Then awesome!

As long as you are happy with it.

Ultimately though.

It’s just about realising when it comes to beards and in particular their ability to grow in parts that you want it to or if you want it to be thicker - you are pretty much dealt the genetic hand you were given.

All we want to make clear though:

i) that’s certainly not a bad thing, guys can still rock and make patchy beards look cool
ii) you can improve the look of your beard no end (by working on the inner beard and outer beard game)

      And

iii) if you really, really want the extra thickness in your beard and to make the connections - as we said above, there are options out there but ask yourself honestly - is it really that worth it?

Instead, we think you should follow out or little plan:

      • Accept that realistically that connection isn’t going to happen (unless you are either really young or you have literally just started growing a beard e.g. less than one month in, judge it again in 3 months time) and that’s perfectly fine.
      • Work on your beard game. This includes both your inner beard game (which as we described above is about looking after yourself) as well as your outer beard game (and the best way to do that is to invest in some beard care products).
