Do you want to know how to go about tirmming a beard neckline the right way?
This is a beard grooming technique that even the most experienced beardsmen trip up on.
It’s knowing exactly where your natural beard neckline and avoid going too high with it or too low, after you get a proper grasp of it - you can even start to rack up some extra style points by implementing a beard fade and so on.
For now though.
This post is going back to basics and helping you identify exactly where it is and how to go about trimming it with ease.
Just as a quick reminder always splash some beard oil on afterward.
All you will need is your bare mits and a trusty (and preferably decent) beard trimmer. You could use a pair of beard scissors for this but it will take a whole lot longer than you need to and the look won’t be as neat - not by a long stretch.
So first off. Before we start doing anything. Ensure your beard is dry.
The last thing you want to be doing is start trimming or cutting any sort of beard hairs when they are wet, the length is completely distorted and chances are - once it is dry, you will be horrified by the results. Trust us, we’re speaking from experience there.
The common mistake: trimming the beard neckline too short
They get their beard neckline confused with their jawline.
See the picture at the top. Notice how his beard wraps around under his jawline and well under his chin. That’s how a beard trim for the neckline is done correctly.
What instead some guys do is go about trimming right up to the very edge of their jawline. Giving the look of a bit of hair floating across their cheeks.
Not a great look at all.
The second common mistake: trimming the beard neckline too low
To be fair.
This is not nearly as big a problem as the one above because ultimately you got slowly and tentatively trim a low beard neckline into the right place.
You just need to properly identify where your natural line sits and work it into there.
Identifying your beard neckline
Best done in front of a mirror really.
The quick way that I go about it, is simply using your index and and middle finger and close them up together (that's right gentleman). Just like you are about to stick up a pair of V’s.
Then find roughly where your adam’s apple is, placing the middle finger on it, then move up just slightly - so your two fingers are sitting directly above it. The top of your index finger, that’s the bottom of the beard neckline and where you should be shaving up to.
Now marking out the rest of the beard neckline, you are basically trying to contour in a parallel line across your jaw in a smooth sloping motion. It works from swooping to that point we established just above the adam’s apple into the lower side of each jaw (right and left). This gives you the ideal line to trim your beard at.
From there it’s just a matter of getting the trimmer and slowly edging towards it. If have a fine trimming setting that’s going to work the best as you can gradually approach it and eye up in front of the mirror to make sure the lines are both parallel with one another and get the nice even neat look you are needing.
Make sure you clear up the rest of any neckbeard too.
Literally, any sparse hair that’s hanging around underneath the beard line should be taken care of, depending how clean you want to go - you could even go over those parts with a razor if you chose to.
If this all sounds a bit much and looking for a more defined solution that gives you a better and much more consistent result too?
A quick tactic that I use, but works oh so very well. Is just to get hold of a beard shaping tool. Holding it to the angle for your neck and it shows exactly where you want to be trimming not just for your neckline line but for your cheek line too. You can literally pick them up for a couple of quid now.

Keep your beard in style
With this being a ‘style beard post’, as we have already mentioned above - of course, it is great to have a healthy looking beard - but that doesn’t necessarily mean it will look neat and appropriately groomed.
It will just mean you have a strong, soft and healthy beard.
To make it look the part, you need certain products such as a beard styling pomade or you might know it better as the beard texturising styling balm.
This is what’s going to actually hold your beard in place. Think of it like a hybrid of a beard wax and a beard balm. It offers the necessary hold to shape your beard into place and keep the hairs from sticking out everywhere thoroughly in place.
Keep it real guys and happy bearding!
